Passkeys
Register a passkey or hardware security key, use it to sign in without a password, and remove one safely.
A passkey replaces the password step with your device's own authentication: a fingerprint, a face, a screen lock, or a hardware key. It is the only sign-in method on a Gigadrive account that cannot be phished, because the browser will not release it to a look-alike domain.
Register one
Open the security page
Go to account.gigadrive.de/security and find How you sign in.
Choose Add passkey
The browser takes over and asks how you want to authenticate. Which options appear is up to your device and browser, not to Gigadrive.
Re-authenticate if asked
Registering a passkey needs credentials proven in the last 15 minutes. If yours are older, a prompt appears and the registration continues by itself once you clear it.
The new passkey shows up under Your verification factors with a last-used timestamp. Register one per device you use; there is no limit on how many an account holds.
Signing in with it
On the first sign-in screen, select Passkey. You do not enter an email address first, because the passkey carries the account identity itself. Cancelling the browser prompt returns "Passkey sign-in was cancelled or failed" and leaves the sign-in where it was.
A passkey also works as a second factor. When your account has one and something demands two-step verification, Passkey or security key appears in the method list next to the authenticator app and emailed codes.
Removing one
Disable it under Your verification factors. Gigadrive refuses the removal if it would leave you with no way back in.
What counts as a sign-in method
A password, any linked provider, any passkey, and email verification. An authenticator app does not count, because it can only ever confirm a sign-in that some other method started. Removing your last one fails with "Add another sign-in method before disabling this one."
Disabling a passkey is per credential. The others on the account keep working, and the device itself may still list the credential until you delete it there too.
